David Blair, 1946 – 2024

Services will be held Dec. 23 at First Baptist Church in Churdan for David Blair, 77, of Churdan. The Rev David Arulnathan will preside. Interment will be in Highland Township Cemetery. David died Dec. 17, 2024.

Mark David Blair (David), son of Paul and Zatha (Gardner) Blair, was born Dec. 22, 1946, in Jefferson. He lived with his family on a farm five miles from Churdan and graduated from Paton-Churdan High School.

David married his high school sweetheart, Linda Anholt, on Dec. 17, 1966.  They had three children, Kelly, Tom and Matthew.  David worked for Farmer’s Co-op in Churdan delivering feed.  He opened a feed store for Eldon Juhl and later started his own business, Blair’s Feed & Seed in Churdan.  He then went to work with his dad on the farm he loved. David was happiest while working the land and caring for his cattle.

He enjoyed attending and watching his children and grandchildren’s sporting events and activities.  David was known to be a regular at both the Greene County Fair and Iowa State Fair.  He also enjoyed morning coffee visits with his fellow farmers and will also be remembered for his sense of humor.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 58 years, Linda; his children Kelly (Tom) Kutsch of Urbandale, Tom (Nicole) Blair of Ankeny, and Matthew (Brittany Gathercoal) Blair of Jefferson; eight grandchildren; one great-grandson; sister Elizabeth Bertelli of Churdan; sister-in-law Marice (Pat) Geisler of Churdan; other relatives and friends.

David was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.

The family is assisted by Slininger-Schroeder Funeral Home, Jefferson, 515-386-2171.
